CASI Whitepaper on Carbon Accounting for Long-lived Assets
This whitepaper articulates a standard for recognizing and amortizing the carbon emissions embodied in long-lived assets. Read more
Under this standard, the CO₂ embodied in a machine, a building, or a vehicle is not written off in the year it is bought. Instead, it is first capitalized on the CO₂-Balance Sheet as an asset and then amortized via the Net CO₂-Contribution Statement over the years the asset is used, mirroring how the asset is depreciated in financial accounts.
The whitepaper describes how acquisition is recognized, how the useful life is determined, and what happens when an asset is sold, written down, or retired early. It also shows how the resulting figures feed the product carbon footprints of the goods produced with the asset.
CASI Whitepaper on “CO2 Statements: Double-Entry Bookkeeping for Integrated Corporate Carbon Accounting”
This whitepaper introduces double-entry bookkeeping for deriving corporate CO2 statements and product carbon footprints from the same CO2 Ledger. Read more
Every entry is recorded twice, once where the CO₂ arises and once where it ends up. Because the two sides must agree, the statements can be checked against each other.
